About us

The Clinic is part of the University Hospital "Sveti Duh", is part of the oldest hospital in the Republic of Croatia, which was founded in 1804, and has been working continuously ever since. In 2015, the Clinic is the first and only in the Republic of Croatia holder of the European Ophthalmological Society (SOE) award, on the basis of which he is trainees and specialists from all over Europe enabled the implementation of the work his education in ophthalmology at the University Eye Clinic of the University Hospital "Sveti Duh". Based on the results of one of the largest projects in ophthalmology, the Project entitled "Amblyopia in four-year-old children of the City of Zagreb" the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Croatia introduced on the 1st of June 2015 screening for low vision as mandatory for all four-year-old children in the Republic
Croatia. That screening grew into the National Preventive Program in January 2016, a program for early detection of low vision, and already established in 2017 the 1st in the world national Register of early detection of low vision, which ranks the Republic Croatia ranks at the very top of the world in the implementation of preventive conservation health not only of children but prospectively of the entire population.

By the decision of HZZO, the University Eye Clinic of the University Hospital "Sveti Duh", has become the only center of excellence in the Republic of Croatia for voretigene neparvovek administration.

The University Eye Clinic of the University Hospital "Sveti Duh", Zagre, has become a certified center for the treatment of inherited retinal dystrophies with the drug Luxturna.

At the University Eye Clinic of the University Hospital "Sveti Duh", Zagreb, under the leadership of prof. Mladen Bušic, MD, PhD, and prof. Mirjana Bjeloš, MD, PhD, and vitreoretinal surgeons prof. Damir Bosnar, MD, PhD, and Borna Šaric, MD, PhD, administered Luxturna for the first time in Croatian history.
